GLOBAL ECONOMIC REVIEW REPORT

Rolling the dice for economic options, when uncertainty looms over world economy

Published on 29September 2026

The capacity to raise debt really matters in today’s world economy and this indeed define the endurance capacity of the nations. The behaviour of developing economies and developing economies to the ongoing crisis reveal that these economies face significantly different issues while addressing the ongoing crisis in world economy. Creating jobs and controlling inflation is inevitably important for all nations considering the fact that 1.2 billion young people reach their working age in the next decade. The drastic improvement in private jobs in US is showing the other countries the way to address these problems in the most effective manner. Recently published world bank article[i] showed that global economy revealed its resilience nature against ongoing crisis and global  growth is projected to grow at a rate of 2.6 percent. As per report published online[ii], the fitch credit rate agency claimed that reversal in artificial intelligence boom may result in 0.6 percent reduction in US GDP.

Growth prospects

Economic activity data’s for Mexico showed sentiments, where the yoy data showed consistent increase in economic activity for the last six months where as the trend in month data is more less zig zag in nature. The data from Argentina showed continuing sluggish mood of a slowing economy. The Spanish economy expanded at 2.6% and remain unchanged from the last quarter. However compared with average growth rate of 2.8% in the 2025, the economy is slightly poised with growth prospects. Canadian economy remain unchanged showed resilient nature of economy. The increasing trend in private employment and reducing trend in jobless claims showed that job market in US is not having any genuine weakness even though the country is indulging the war in middle east. The current decrease in unemployment rate in France had provided some relief  in short term even though the economy expects broader weakness in unemployment.

Inflation and interest rate

The trend of increasing the interest rate continued for week, where south Africa and Australia increased the interest rate by 25 bps. The policy makers noted that ongoing issues in the global economy with surging energy prices and supply chain disruptions had impacted in higher inflationary pressure in global economy. Interestingly price increase in technology related goods are mainly attributed to the ongoing AI-related demand. According to online sources, USA is spending 77% of the global AI infrastructure. Companies like Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft and meta combinedly spending approximately $730 billion in 2026 alone. Developing countries participation with this trend is less evident and it is clear that they are more concerned about the slowing of economy due to the ongoing international crisis. As expected Indonesia kept its interest rate unchanged at 5.75%. The upward trend in evident in most of the data published by on inflation. Countries like Singapore, south Africa, USA, Spain all showed slight increase in inflation. The increasing trend in producer price index in Spain for the last six months shows that the economy significantly impacted with surge in energy prices.

The US stock market showed positive momentum because general positive mood of the investors remained unchanged after observing the surge in corporate profits. The  expectation of generative AI infrastructure and resilient nature of US consumer economy  influenced the broad positive sentiments. As expected, Japan stock market moved in tandem with the US stock market because of their shared sentiments in global liquidity. It is understood that US mega funds use Japan as a cheap source of funding but the co-dependency expands to more horizons like intertwined corporate profits and capital investments. The general sentiments in Asian stock markets revealed the anxiety of investors for the disruption in global supply chain movements and surge in energy prices. Indian economy reflected the general sentiment in Asian stock market but the economy is more worried about the aggressive foreign fund out flows.

The general sentiments of strengthening of USD against the major currency pairs continued to influence the market sentiment. Indian rupee and Honkong dollar slowed slight recovery and stood against the general sentiments in USD strengthening. The decline in crude oil prices and intervention of RBI helped rupee for its modest recovery. The relief in rupee might be transient considering the fact the USA is in an initiative to increase interest rate to combat inflation. The strengthening of dollar against Mexico may act positive for the exporters in Mexico but this relationship is more complex after analysing the trade relationship between these two countries. The uncertainty over near shoring and US dollar remittances in Mexico are all factors that increase the complexity of this relationship.

Crude oil prices dropped for the week marking 3.82 % fall for the week showing that US and Iran diplomatic progress at the United nations general assembly that rekindled the expectation of improving the middle eastern supply routes had really influenced the market participants sentiments. The supply recovery of Saudi Arabia after successfully repairing the drone strike damage also aided the sentiments. Shipping data showed that the crude exports from middle eastern producers reached 12.8 million barrels per day reaching the highest level after February. The lack of fresh geopolitical issues and the hike in treasury yield resulted the fall in prices for gold diminishing the safe haven appeal for gold.
